Wall Display Cases vs. Floor Display Cases for Retail Design

A wide range of factors affect a retail store’s success, besides the actual merchandise. While product quality is paramount, marketing efforts, customer service, interior design and product placement are equally important.

A 2014 study published in the International Journal of Scientific and Technology Research (IJSTR) examines the very significant function a brick and mortar store’s layout has in a consumer’s decision-making process. Its results show “that the design factor of a store is the biggest environment factor that impacts customer approach behaviors; its power of influence and interpretation are significantly higher than other factors.”

Accordingly, a retail store’s layout must be carefully thought out, with every detail meticulously considered.

This includes the type of glass retail display cases presenting the merchandise. Although there are several types available, two popular models are wall and floor display cases. Neither is necessarily better than the other, as they both bring something different to the table.

WALL DISPLAY CASES

Wall display cases are showcases mounted on the wall of an interior space. They are not only used in retail stores, but hold other commercial applications as well, including, though not limited to, museums and academic institutions.

One of the benefits of utilizing glass wall display cases is that you’re able to stock the products at eye level, ensuring they're noticed by customers as they browse. Remember: If patrons don’t see what’s being offered, they aren’t going to buy anything.

Furthermore, wall display cases open up the space and enable customers to move around as they please without knocking into anything. They also ensure customers can stand back and clearly view everything on display in the store, without any obstructions.

FLOOR DISPLAY CASES

Also referred to as free-standing display cases, glass floor display cases are another option to consider when designing an interior retail space.

The key advantage to floor display cases is that you can arrange them any way you see fit, depending on customers' foot traffic patterns. This makes them a more versatile choice. Once you know how customers typically move in the store, you can set up the display cases at various points sure to catch their attention and influence them to stop.
